The following is an edited version of the email invitation to the Helsinki CI practice group which went out on the Finnish email list - the list is also used to arrange facilitators and announce sessions - the following info is included in emails and is available at the score jams.
This CI Practice Session Score is based on Nancy Stark Smith's Underscore. It is intended as a way for those familiar with the Underscore to practice together with those not familiar with it in a way the those not familiar with it don't feel disadvantaged or intimidated.
This score works and the meetings continue - feel free to take it and use it
to meet for three hours every second week and go through the following simple three-hour process:
1) 20 mins arriving time - after which the a sign is hung on the door saying "we're busy now - sorry, but you missed it" - feel free to begin your warm-up or whatever you need to arrive and be ready for dancing - if you arrive at the practice then you agree to stay until the end
2) 10 mins circle - to check in briefly with each person so we see who we will be practicing with and how we are all doing individually - maybe explain to newcomers what is about to happen - to remember how we are going to practice together (see next section) - GOOD QUESTIONS TO ASK - ANY INJURIES OR VULNERABILITIES? - ANY DESIRES AND WISHES FOR DANCES?
3) 2 hours dance time - complete your warm up - the intention is to study/research ci - you can also explore solo movement, watch, sleep, do bodywork, piss, etc, but whatever you do you, you are "in" - throughout the two hours there are no words, though sounds are fine - time is called 15 mins before end - we end our practice together
4) 10 mins silent time - to reflect, begin warm down, to make the transition out of the dancing time
5) 30 mins sharing time in circle - to check in after to share what we have found and learned - to begin to process the experience together before leaving
Each week there needs to be a facilitator whose role is to:
1) be responsible for keys - arrange to pick up and return the keys
2) open and prepare the space - clean the floor and move away any mess
3) keep track of time - call people together for and facilitate the opening and closing circles (NO TEACHING) - give a call 15 mins before the end of the dancing time
4) collect money and pay for space - whatever money is left is yours for your time-keeping, key and money duties (it's not so much fun having to keep track of of this so the loose some of the pleasure of being in this score, and if we share out the facilitator role among regular attenders then you'll end up paying back what you earn when you are not facilitating!!!)
In Autumn 2005 we began to hold CI practice sessions every second Saturday.
